Todd Wilkinson has been an award-winning environmental journalist writing about the American West for 37 years. Based in Bozeman, Montana and having spent part of his early career in Jackson Hole, he is known foremost for his knowledge and reporting on the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. A correspondent to National Geographic and The Guardian, his work has been published in dozens of national magazines and newspapers. He is founder of Mountain Journal (MountainJournal.org), an online conservation journalism site with readers around the world that is devoted to exploring the intersection between wild nature and humans in Greater Yellowstone. He is the author of several critically acclaimed books on topics ranging from scientific whistleblowers to the conservation legacy of media mogul turned bison rancher Ted Turner. Along with renowned nature photographer Thomas D. Mangelsen of Jackson Hole, he wrote the text for Grizzlies of Pilgrim Creek: An Intimate Portrait of 399, the Most Famous Bear of Greater Yellowstone. It won a High Plains Book Award. In August 2023, Wilkinson and Mangelsen have a sequel that will be published by Rizzoli International titled Grizzly 399: The World's Most Famous Mother Bear featuring more astonishing images by Mangelsen. Wilkinson, a native of Minnesota, started his writing life as a violent crime reporter for the legendary City News Bureau of Chicago.
